The Urology Department utilizes the latest in treatment options. In the area of prostate care, for example, St. Mary offers a non-surgical treatment for prostate enlargement that uses microwaves. For prostate cancer, in 2004 the medical center began offering in addition to traditional treatments cryoablation, a minimally invasive technique which uses cold to kill cancer cells. Cryoablation offers a faster recovery and fewer side effects than radiation or the surgical removal of the prostate.
