Signs that you may have a sleep disorder include
- Snoring loudly when you sleep
- Snoing loudly and stop breathing during your sleep
- Having violent movements during your sleep, especially if you have injured yourself or others, or if you've actually acted out dreams
- Finding it hard to stay awake in boring situations
- Falling asleep or get drowsy while driving
- Getting sleepy during certain times of the day (morning or evening), but having trouble sleeping (difficulty falling asleep or awakening too early)
- Getting so sleepy in the "daytime" that you just have to lie down for a nap or rest
- Sometimes getting muscle weakness when you are emotional (especially laughter)
- Getting an unpleasant (creeping, crawling) feeling in your legs when you lie down at night...that makes you want to rub or move them...or your legs feel restless when you try to go to sleep
- Having disrupted sleep (awaken frequently)
- Worrying about your sleep
You should consult your doctor about your sleep IF YOU:
- Are sleepy in the "daytime" in spite of 8 hours in bed every night
- Snore loudly and especially if you actually stop breathing at night
- Have violent behaviors during your sleep
- Are always very sleepy and have had muscle weakness when you get
emotional
- Are kept awake by restless legs (a creeping, crawly sensation of the
legs)
- Remain unsatisfied with the quality of your sleep after following
sleep hygiene recommendations for two weeks
