The Providence St. Mary Foundation has several funds that directly benefit patients in need:
The Reflection Garden at Providence St. Mary Medical Center – According to Sister Annette Seubert, “Reflection and healing gardens are not really new but are becoming recognized again for their ability to soothe the soul and refresh the spirits of the grieving, the sick, and the stressed out. They provide a healing environment in medical settings and give patients, families and staff alike a place to retreat from all the technology and fast paced activity. They provide a quiet haven and sanctuary in a natural space where body, mind and spirit can be healed and refreshed, where one can retreat, even for a short time, become centered and renewed.”
Cancer Special Needs Fund -- Helps cancer patients by facilitating random acts of kindness and alleviating financial barriers to treatment. Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center nurses are instrumental in identifying the many different ways to put the Special Needs Fund into action on behalf of their patients. Donor support helps “make the day” or ease the burden for cancer patients in diverse ways, from helping with the cost of pharmaceuticals, nutrition or transportation, to cheering the spirit with a new wig or a bouquet of flowers.
Birth to Three Rehabilitation Fund -- Assists families having no or limited insurance in receiving the treatment their infants and toddlers need at Turning Point Rehabilitation Center.
Lifesaver Breast Cancer Screening Fund -- Provides mammography and other breast cancer screening at Providence St. Mary Medical Center to women for whom financial need is a barrier.
Herring Guest House – Extends a welcoming "home away from home" for many receiving cancer treatments at Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center. Patients pay $10 per night for the use of a room, if they can afford it. For many, the availability of this housing option means the difference between whether or not they are able to access care. In addition, patients and their family members who stay at the Herring House often form friendships that help them through a difficult time in life.
Chaplaincy Services – Chaplains at Providence St. Mary Medical Center assist people to be in touch with the spiritual dimension in their lives as it relates to their healing and wellness, and to be a support to persons dealing with emotional issues that are sources of stress. Chaplains offer this service to patients and families of all faiths through visiting, counseling, prayer and the Sacraments.
